Companies: “The Good, the Bad, the Ugly!” – We are looking for “The Good” one!

In the past months my team Viola and Martin and I told in our blog posts many interesting stories, discovered astonishing and shocking facts and criticized companies, systems, developments and so on. It was very interesting to learn more about the topics we researched – which were  almost all related to Corporate Social Responsibility. We reported about bad businesses, for instance Martin’s post who informed us about child labour or Viola’s blog post about bad working conditions. What we  learned during this semester and within this blogging task was that although CSR has become more and more common that there is still a lot to do till our world is becoming more equal and fair-minded.

Exxon Mobil in ‘The day the water died’

This blog post is about Exxon Mobil’s oil spill catastrophe Exxon Valdez in 1989 and its reaction to it. During the research I want to learn more about the tremendous oil spill, I want to find out if and how the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility changed after the disaster and to get some important questions answered. This blog post is the continuation of my last blog post where I reported about BP’s oil spill Deep Water Horizon in 2010.

BP = Beyond Petroleum OR Big Polluter?

In my last blog post „Does a company do well, by doing good“ we saw that it is sometimes very difficult to differentiate between a „good“ and a „bad“ company as far as Corporate Social Responsibility concerns.  In this and the next blog post I want to get to the bottom of things and find out if and how BP’s and Exxon Mobil’s CSR behavior, both companies have already been mentioned in  tmy last blog post, changed after the big oil spilling disasters. This post will dedicate to BP and the “Deep Water Horizon disaster” of 2010 and the next blog post will report about its competitor Exxon Mobil’s which was responsible for the oil spill catastrophe  “Exxon Valdez oil spill“ in 1989. Does a company do well, by doing good?

In my previous blog post “Look out! Stop the ‘Killer Jeans’!” you could learn more about ethical and unethical garments and about companies which follow the green trend and produce organic and substantial clothing like H&M with its Conscious Collection as well as Nike and C&A.

The fact that an increasing number of companies is aware of environmental and social responsiblity and that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) becomes more and more popular recently caught my attention and encouraged me to continue writing about that topic. In this blog post I want to get to know more about Corporate Social Responsibility and I also want to find responses to the questions I recently asked in my blog posts. I want to learn what CSR is all about, whether CSR is just a current trend and whether and how companies are benefiting from it.

My way through the “internet jungle” – Preparation for my next blog post

Preparations: What topic should I choose? What questions I want to get answered? How to get through the “internet jungle” full of information?

The first and most difficult thing before starting to write a blog is to choose a topic which is interesting for you but also attractive for your blog readers.  After writing my last blog post about organic clothing and the new campaigns of H&M, Nike and Adidas which follow the green trend and produce organic ethical garments I got a lot of positive feedback from my classmates. They were very into that topic and asked me a bunch of questions.
